Lyin' Brian - we want our money back!
OTTAWA—Thirteen years ago, the federal Liberal government handed over
$2 million and an apology to former prime minister Brian Mulroney for
damage done to his reputation.
Now, in the wake of a damning report on the cloudy business
dealings of Mulroney and the now-imprisoned German lobbyist Karlheinz
Schreiber, Liberals want their money back. Or, more correctly, they
think Canadians should get their money back.
“Mr. Mulroney received a $2.1 million settlement from Canadians
after he claimed, under oath, that he had no business relationship with
Karlheinz Schreiber. Justice Oliphant called Mr. Mulroney’s excuses
‘patently absurd,’ ” Liberal MP Siobhan Cody said in the Commons on
Monday.
“Will the government immediately launch legal proceedings to
recover the $2.1 million and launch a broader inquiry to finally get to
the bottom of the Airbus affair?”
Not while Conservatives are in power.
